Holiday by Alexander Maltsev
This was our first major art purchase. It happened while we were walking the art galleries in Kirkland, WA. We stopped in the Berezkina gallery were they had an exhibition by Aleander Maltsev. We loved his work, but our favorite painting didn't have a price tag on it so we assumed that it had already been sold. We got home that night, and we both found ourselves thinking and talking about that painting. The next morning, we drove back to the gallery, as we just had to ask again about it. The gallery owner told us that the painting hadn't been sold yet, and she was a bit surprised it hadn't. We went to look again at the painting with the owner, and she found that the information tag ( with the price ) had fallen off the wall and was hidden behind another painting on the floor. We looked at each other, took a deep breath, took it as a good omen that the tag had reappeared for us, and the painting was sold!
We've seen this painting on the web a few times, sometimes incorrectly titled "Babushka and Dedushka". It's 28"x36" in mixed media (Oil, Acrylic, Ink, Pencil, ...) dated 1996. It's quite three dimensional up close and definitely a favorite of ours. It's also in a frame by the artist which is a nice touch.
We also have another Maltsev painting from his rual Russian period called "Babushka". You can find more about it here. While it doesn't have the beautiful earth tones of "Holiday", it is a nice compliment to it.
