M31 Andromeda Galaxy
M31 Andromeda Galaxy. For years (perhaps even a decade) I've been trying to get a decent shot of the Andromeda galaxy. Light pollution filters, h-Alpha filters, nothing seemed to work. A vacation at Lake Chelan in September of 2010 produced some really dark skies and finally a nice photo of the Andromeda Galaxy. Taken with a Canon XSi with a 55-250mm zoom piggybacked on a Celestron NextStar11 GPS. This photo consists of a stack of 17 5-minute exposures (1' 25" cumulative) at ISO 1600, stacked with DeepSkyStacker. Update 01/2016: restacked the jpgs, added dark frame subtraction, and did a bit more post-processing to bring out the color of Andromeda. You can now see the blue regions of new star formations and older regions of cooler stars in red.
