The Flame and Horsehead Nebulas

Flame and Horsehead Nebulas

The Flame and Horsehead Nebulas. A vacation trip to the dark skies of Lake Chelan in September 2010 produced some great astronomical photos. This was taken with a Canon XSi with a 55-250mm zoom piggybacked on a Celestron NextStar 11 GPS. A stack of 5 300-second exposures stacked with DeepSkyStacker. The bright star in the photo is Alnitak which is the leftmost star in Orion's belt. The horsehead can be seen as a black outline in the reddish area below the star.
