The Milky Way
The Milky Way as seen over the relatively dark skies of Lake Chelan, WA September 2010. This photo is stitched together from 10 75-second exposures taken with a Canon XSi with a 10mm lens at F3.5 ISO 1600 piggybacked on a Celestron NextStar 11 GPS. The origional photo was stitched together with hugin and is 6500x6500 pixels. You can view a slightly clipped version HERE. North is at about the 10 o-clock position and you can see the Andromeda galaxy at about 8 o-clock. The bright object on the eastern horizon is Jupiter. The lights on the water's edge at about 4 o-clock are the northern bit of the town of Manson, WA and the glow on the horizon just to the left of it from the town of Chelan, WA, about 13 miles down the lake.
